Therapy Tailored To Your Needs

Individuals

We work with a full spectrum of individuals including men, women, youth, and children from diverse backgrounds and cultural origins, who come to see us for a variety of reasons.

In therapy, we seek to understand both the nature of current difficulties and the ways in which these difficulties may be repetitive themes of the past. At times, we focus our work on healing past hurt, while at other times, our work together will be forward-looking as we search for ways to unleash emotional freedom for new and creative possibilities. We will explore the challenges of living life to the fullest.

Families

In families with young children, teens, or young adults still at home, frequently the issues and well-being of one individual are intertwined with the issues and well-being of all the other members of the family living under the same roof. Including all members of the family in therapy can create well-being for everyone as it pertains to difficult shared experiences.

In families with adult children no longer living at home, the issues may be between an adult child and a parent or parents, or with siblings. With adult children, divides may be unhealed issues from childhood, or issues or conflict may arise as a result of a family business, or end-of-life issues for parents including medical decisions, power of attorneys, wills, and estates, etc.

Couples

We meet with both partners to understand difficulties in the relationship, including communication, problem solving, warmth, affection, and satisfying intimacy.

Together, we work to understand those current and past systemic patterns of interaction ("the dance") which interfere with the relationship and we look at ways to positively influence communication and intimacy to create a new way of being together. In the process, partners agree on goals for the relationship which typically creates a more satisfying, respectful, supportive, loving, and intimate relationship. Both individuals grow and expand as they move toward achieving their mutual goal and to heal attachment injuries and restore the connection.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an interactive psychotherapy technique used to relieve psychological stress. It is a treatment for trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

During EMDR therapy sessions, you relive traumatic or triggering experiences in brief doses while the therapist directs your eye movements.

EMDR is thought to be effective because recalling distressing events is often less emotionally upsetting when your attention is diverted. This allows you to be exposed to the memories or thoughts without having a strong psychological response. Over time, this technique is believed to lessen the impact that the memories or thoughts have on you.

Multiple independent and controlled studies suggest that EMDR therapy is an effective treatment for PTSD. It’s even one of the Department of Veterans Affairs’ strongly recommended options to treat PTSD.
